Support greater access to a high-quality public education
Tennessee is leading the way in innovative solutions to provide students with greater access to a high-quality public education. HB 940/SB 796 will allow Public Charter Schools to utilize vacant and underutilized school district property. This bill will invest, improve, and support public charter schools, which overwhelming serve minority and low-income students by establishing an independent, expert panel to review applications and authorize new public schools, ensure reliable access to underutilized of vacant school buildings resulting in greater access to quality facilities, and improve the school/authorizer relationship by tasking the state Board of Education with greater authorizer management responsibilities. Providing safe and functional facilities for our students is another way to strengthen Tennessee’s focus on quality, innovation, and opportunity to further academic achievement and prepare our students for college and career success.
Please support HB 940/SB 796 to ensure more of Tennessee’s students have the opportunity to have a seat at a high-quality public school and a space to learn.
